NSHE Regents’ Awards and Sam Lieberman Student Scholarships Announced

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents named recipients of the 2024 Regents’ awards for NSHE faculty and staff at the Board’s March quarterly meeting. The Board of Regents also awarded the “Sam Lieberman Regents’ Award for Student Scholarship” winners for 2024, honoring nine students for their academic achievements, leadership ability, and service contributions throughout the state.

Sam Lieberman Regents’ Award for Student Scholarship

Formerly known as the Regents’ Scholar Award, the “Sam Lieberman Regents’ Award for Student Scholarship” was renamed for Regent Sam Lieberman who passed away in 2020, in commemoration of his service and dedication to public higher education in Nevada.

Each recipient will receive a $5,000 stipend funded by the Nevada System of Higher Education System Administration.

The honorees include:

  • Zachary Billot, UNLV – Undergraduate
  • Alixe Bunyard, TMCC
  • Sarah Crews, GBC
  • Alessandro Ralls, UNR – Graduate
  • Alexander Rankin, NSU
  • Suzanna Stankute, WNC
  • Rebecca Taylor, CSN
  • Emylia Terry, UNLV – Graduate
  • Micah Woodruff, UNR – Undergraduate

Nevada Regents’ Outstanding Classified Staff Award

The Board of Regents’ Outstanding Classified Staff Award is given annually to staff members with distinguished classified service. One award will be granted annually to a full-time member of the classified staff who provides outstanding service in support of the institution and/or classified staff. The honoree receives a $3,000 stipend. The 2024 Regents’ Outstanding Classified Staff Award honoree is:

  • Sunny Remneff, UNR

Nevada Regents’ Creative Activities Award

The Board of Regents established the Regents’ Award for Creative Activities in 1993. This award recognizes significant accomplishments which bring recognition, as well as national and international stature, to the Nevada System of Higher Education. The honoree receives a $5,000 stipend and a medal. The 2024 Regents’ Creative Activities Awards honorees are:

  • Mark Maynard, TMCC (Community Colleges)
  • Peter Goin, UNR – (Universities, DRI)

Nevada Regents’ Teaching Award

In 1996, the Board of Regents approved the establishment of the annual Regents’ Teaching Award. This award honors outstanding instructional contributions to the Nevada System of Higher Education. Each honoree receives a $5,000 stipend and a medal. The 2024 Nevada Regents’ Teaching Awards honorees are:

  • Dr. Meeghan Gray, TMCC – Tenured/Tenure Track (Community Colleges)
  • Dr. Ann-Marie Vollstedt, UNR – Non-Tenured (Universities, DRI)
  • Dr. Kaitlin Clinnin, UNLV – Tenured/Tenure-Track (Universities, DRI)

Nevada Regents’ Academic Advisor Award

The Board of Regents established the Regents’ Academic Advising Award in 1998. This award honors outstanding academic student advising with one award granted to a community college advisor and two awards granted to advisors at the state university or universities. Each honoree receives a $5,000 stipend. The 2024 Nevada Regents’ Academic Advisor Awards honorees are:

  • Jolina Adams, GBC (Community Colleges)
  • John Joseph Starkey, UNLV (Undergraduate – Universities, DRI)
  • Dr. Keri L. Ryan, UNR – (Graduate – Universities, DRI) 

Nevada Regents’ Researcher Award

The Board of Regents established the Regents’ Researcher Award in 1992. This award is bestowed upon faculty members with a substantial record of accomplishments, including a significant amount of research and scholarly work with recognition, clear evidence of the national and/or international stature of the research, and in the case of grants and contracts, must have been competitive on a national or international level. The honoree receives a $5,000 stipend and a medal. The 2024 Regents’ Researcher Award honorees are:

  • Dr. Xiaolaing Wang, DRI – (Mid-Career)
  • Dr. Bing Zhang, UNLV – (Distinguished)

Nevada Regents’ Rising Researcher Award

The Board of Regents established the Regents’ Rising Researcher Award in 2008. This award is bestowed upon faculty members from each Nevada research institution in recognition of their early-career accomplishments and potential for future advancement and recognition in research. The honoree receives a $2,000 award. The 2024 Regents’ Rising Researcher Awards honorees are:
