Two University Police Officers Honored with Award for Valor

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) congratulates Detective Nathaniel Drum and Officer Damian Garcia of University Police Services for being chosen to receive the 2023-24 Award for Valor from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).

Detective Drum and Officer Garcia are being honored for their brave actions during the shooting on December 6, 2023, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Their quick and selfless response during this critical event showed great courage and helped keep the campus community safe.

“These heroes epitomize the true essence of bravery, and I am proud of all they did on that dark day,” said Adam Garcia, Vice President Public Safety Services and Director of University Police.

The IACLEA Award for Valor is given to campus public safety officers who have shown bravery in the line of duty. Detective Drum and Officer Garcia received their awards June 26, 2024, in New Orleans, Louisiana, during the IACLEA Annual Conference Leadership Awards & Installation Gala.

NSHE is proud of Detective Drum and Officer Garcia for this well-deserved honor and thanks them for their dedication to the safety of the university community.
