Board of Regents Appoint WNC Interim President

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents tapped Officer-In-Charge and Provost J. Kyle Dalpe to serve as Interim President of Western Nevada College.

The appointment as interim president will begin March 4 and continue through December 31, 2023.

According to NSHE code, the Board of Regents can consider an interim president as permanent president after a year. The Board can also conduct a search for a permanent president at any time. There are no plans to conduct a search currently.

“President Dalpe is committed to and understands Western Nevada College’s mission and its unique place in Nevada’s higher education landscape,” said Board of Regents Chair Cathy McAdoo.  “His breadth of experience will help lead WNC forward.”

NSHE Chancellor Melody Rose added, “President Dalpe is a highly respected higher education leader and administrator. I am confident his vast knowledge and understanding of Western Nevada College makes him the right person to lead the institution at this time.”

President Dalpe said, “I am humbled and honored to be selected for this position. Western Nevada College plays a vital role in higher education in our region, providing access to programs and services for our diverse communities. I look forward to leading the college, and its outstanding faculty and staff, to better serve our students.”

An experienced leader, President Dalpe has served WNC since 2019. Prior to that, he spent 16 years serving Truckee Meadows Community College in various leadership positions, including Acting President, Director of Institutional Advancement, Associate Dean and Chief of Staff in the President’s Office, and Dean of the Technical Sciences Division. He also served as the Interim Executive Director of Legislative Affairs for the Nevada System of Higher Education for the 2019 legislative session.

Prior to becoming the Officer-In-Charge at WNC, Dr. Dalpe served as the college’s Provost and Vice President of Finance.

President Dalpe earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Photojournalism from the University of Connecticut; a Master of Arts degree in Journalism, Speech and Political Science from the University of Texas at Tyler; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership from the University of Nevada, Reno.
