NSHE Partners with the City of Reno to Launch Secure Wi-Fi Access Service eduroam at Public Sites Across the City
[Reno, NV] – The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) has partnered with the City of Reno to launch eduroam, a secure Wi-Fi access service, at public locations across the city. This collaboration brings seamless, reliable connectivity to students, educators, and researchers at select community facilities, expanding digital access beyond campuses and into the everyday spaces where people learn, work, and gather.
“This partnership with the City of Reno is another strong example of how we can work together to eliminate digital barriers,” said Board of Regents Chair Byron Brooks. “Providing secure connectivity at community sites expands access to opportunity and helps ensure that all Nevadans, no matter where they are, can stay connected to learning, research, and innovation.”
The rollout enables eduroam access at nine City of Reno locations, including the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center, California Building, McKinley Arts Center, Moana Springs Pool, Neil Road Recreation Center, Northwest Pool, Plumas Gym, Paradise Park and the Mira Loma Park. Students, faculty, and researchers across all levels of education can log in with their existing institutional credentials and connect automatically wherever eduroam is available. This includes NSHE campuses, a growing number of K-12 eduroam participants in Northern Nevada, such as the Washoe County School District, Carson City School District, and the Davidson Academy of Nevada, as well as 250 locations across the state, and more than 38,000 participating sites worldwide.
“This collaboration with the City of Reno is part of our growing effort to meet learners and educators where they are,” said Chancellor Matt McNair. “We’re building a network of access that connects Nevadans to opportunity, whether they’re on a college campus, in a public library, or at a local park.”
The service is supported by NSHE’s System Computing Services and is offered at no cost to public partners through state funding. NSHE continues to expand eduroam’s availability across Nevada in partnership with school districts, cities, counties, libraries, and other education-serving organizations.
“We’re proud to partner with NSHE to bring eduroam to our residents,” said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. “This effort helps expand access to digital learning and supports students and researchers across our community.”
This launch is part of NSHE’s broader statewide initiative to bridge the digital divide and improve educational access through strategic partnerships and infrastructure investment. With every new partner, eduroam’s reach grows, ensuring students and educators across Nevada are never far from a secure connection.
