Board of Regents Appoints Acting President of Nevada State College
The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents appointed Nevada State College Provost and Executive Vice President Vickie Shields to serve as the acting president of Nevada State College (NSC) between current President Bart Patterson’s retirement date and new President DeRionne Pollard’s start date.
President Patterson is set to retire June 30 and President Pollard is set to begin a four-year contract on Aug. 16. In April, the Board of Regents voted to appoint Dr. Pollard as Nevada State College’s next president. She will become the 8th president of the 19-year-old college.
President Patterson is retiring after 10 years leading Nevada State.
Board of Regents Chair Mark Doubrava said, “I want to thank Provost Shields for stepping into this role at this time. I believe her experience as a trusted leader will serve Nevada State College well this summer.”
Provost Shields, who has been with Nevada State since 2017, said she was honored to serve as acting president of Nevada State. “The opportunity excites me because I will forever be deeply committed to empowering and improving the lives of first-generation and traditionally underserved students through higher education. In the four years that I have served as Provost and Executive Vice President, I have come to love this institution–its unique culture, its students, faculty, and staff, and its critical mission within the NSHE System.”
