Nevada Regent takes national leadership role representing community colleges across the country

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) proudly recognizes Regent Carol Del Carlo as she begins her term as Chair of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Board of Directors. She officially began her term during the 2025 ACCT Leadership Congress in New Orleans, where education leaders from across the country gathered to discuss the future of community colleges.

A member of the NSHE Board of Regents since 2017, Del Carlo represents District 9, which includes Carson City and Churchill, Douglas, Lander, Lyon, Mineral, and Storey counties, as well as rural southern Washoe County, including Incline Village. She has previously served as both vice chair and chair pro tempore of the Board. She was the first Nevadan elected to the ACCT Board of Directors, where she most recently served as chair-elect.

In her presiding year, Del Carlo says she plans to carry out the ACCT Board’s recently adopted strategic priorities with an emphasis on the board’s role in supporting and ensuring the well-being of our institutional leaders.

“It is an honor to serve as Chair of the ACCT Board and to represent Nevada’s community colleges on a national stage,” said Regent Carol Del Carlo. “Community colleges open doors for students of all backgrounds. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help guide the work of such a dedicated organization and to strengthen the collaboration that supports our shared mission.”

“Regent Del Carlo’s leadership at the national level reflects her deep commitment to education and to the students our community colleges serve,” said Byron Brooks, chair of the NSHE Board of Regents. “Her service with ACCT highlights Nevada’s strong voice in shaping the future of higher education.”

“We are excited to welcome Chair Del Carlo to this important role,” said Jee Hang Lee, President & CEO of ACCT. “Her dedication to governance, advocacy, and student opportunity will help advance the mission of community colleges nationwide. As Chair Del Carlo often says, students are our North Star in our decision-making.”

The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) is a national nonprofit educational organization that represents more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees governing over 1,000 community, technical, and junior colleges across the United States and beyond.
