[Las Vegas, NV] – The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents today appointed Dr. Amber Lopez Lasater to serve as Acting President of Nevada State University effective October 18, 2025. The Board also launched a national search for Nevada State’s next permanent president and will partner with a search firm to assist the presidential search committee.
The appointment follows a recommendation by Chancellor Matt McNair, after consulting with Board Chair Byron Brooks, Vice Chair Stephanie Goodman, and members of the Nevada State community.
“Nevada State is an important part of Nevada’s higher education system,” said Board Chair Byron Brooks. “The Board’s actions provide a clear direction for the university’s leadership and next steps in the search process. We appreciate the insight shared by the campus community and the continued commitment of everyone supporting Nevada State.”
“Nevada State serves a vital role in expanding access and opportunity for students,” said Chancellor Matt McNair. “Dr. Lopez Lasater’s knowledge of the campus and dedication to its mission will help guide the university during this transition while the Board begins the process of selecting a permanent president.”
