Throughout his first term, President Whitfield demonstrated a commitment to student success and community engagement. During his time as president, graduation rates have increased and he has focused on removing unnecessary roadblocks in student services, optimizing financial aid, and enhancing the enrollment process. Under his leadership, UNLV has made significant strides in various areas, including promoting campus diversity, contributing to economic and workforce development, and fostering interdisciplinary research.

In response to the tragic events of Dec. 6, President Whitfield created a Rebel Recovery Program to help guide the university’s collective response to the Dec. 6 tragedy. The Rebel Recovery program is driven by the notion that safety, security, and well-being are a UNLV priority.

Chancellor Patricia Charlton of NSHE commended President Whitfield for his leadership.

“President Whitfield’s leadership has propelled UNLV to new heights, solidifying its position as a premier institution of higher education. His dedication to student success, community engagement, and innovation has positively impacted the entire university community and beyond.”
