Gov. Sisolak Signs Four Public Higher Education Bills into Law at NSHE
Governor Steve Sisolak visited the Nevada System of Higher Education system administration Las Vegas office on Wednesday, where he signed four new bills passed during the 81st Legislative Session impacting Nevada’s public higher education system.
The bills signed include:
- SB434 – Makes a $25 million appropriation to the Governor’s Office of Finance for the construction of the UNLV Medical Education Building.
- AB319 – Establishes a pilot program relating to dual credit courses.
- SB347 – Requires establishment of a new Task Force and systemwide climate survey regarding Title IX and sexual misconduct.
- SB310 – Makes a $400,000 appropriation to NSHE and authorizes the disbursement of certain federal money to enable the College of Southern Nevada to fund the NV Grow Program.
Board of Regents Chair Mark Doubrava lauded Governor Sisolak and the Legislature for their work to strengthen Nevada’s public higher education system.
“Thanks to Gov. Sisolak and Nevada’s legislature, NSHE’s institutions are primed to help our state’s economic recovery after the distress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Chair Doubrava said. “And Gov. Sisolak and legislature’s support for the UNLV medical education building will go a long way to increase the supply of physicians in Nevada.”
NSHE Chancellor Melody Rose added, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude toward Governor Sisolak for his leadership during the 81st Legislative Session and the commitment he has shown to improving the lives of Nevadans by expanding their higher education opportunities.”
