NSHE Chancellor Condemns Hate and Violence Against Asian Community

A

Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Chancellor Melody Rose rebuked the hate and violence that has been seen against Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in a statement on Friday.

“NSHE condemns the horrifying acts that recently took place in Atlanta. NSHE also condemns an ongoing and disturbing trend of hate and violence against Asian American and Pacific Islander communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Racism and discrimination persist because we avoid difficult conversations. As a higher education system and community we need to engage in more of these discussions on our campuses and acknowledge the deep-rooted and historical racism and discrimination that exists in our country. Education is the pathway to real and lasting change.

NSHE reaffirms its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and the belief it makes us stronger not only as a system of higher education, but as Nevadans too.”
