Due to the remarkable growth and transformation of Nevada’s economy in recent years, the Silver State is facing immediate and long-term challenges in meeting the employment demands of business and industry.

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents on Thursday reviewed its Workforce Development Education strategies and the next steps necessary to meet the job needs of Nevada’s flourishing economy.

“Workforce development is one of our key strategic goals as a state-wide public higher education system,” said Chancellor Thom Reilly. “A coordinated, system-level effort is essential to achieving the important goals of providing the skilled workforce Nevada’s business and industry leaders demand.”

Regents’ Chair Jason Geddes added that a clear and focused workforce development strategy is imperative.

“Licensed professionals, such as teachers and nurses, are in high demand now, and that demand will only grow over time as Nevada’s population increase,” Geddes said. “We must be diligent in our plans to address the immediate and the long-term workforce development education needs of the state.”
