As the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) continues to ensure the safety of its campuses and higher education community in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing NSHE Chancellor and UNLV and UNR President searches have been delayed.

“In holding with the recommended safe practices of national, state and local officials in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is prudent to delay these ongoing searches at this time,” said Chancellor Thom Reilly. “The safety of our campus communities remains our utmost priority, along with the safety of the candidates for these positions, who we hope to reschedule for visits, meetings, and interviews with students, faculty, staff, and higher education stakeholders at a later time.”

Reilly added that he will work closely with the search firms, Wheless Search and Consulting (UNLV), WittKieffer (UNR), and Academic Search (Chancellor), and Board of Regents Chair Jason Geddes, UNLV President Search Chair Regent Sam Lieberman, UNR President Search Chair Regent Rick Trachok, and Chancellor Search Chair Regent Carol Del Carlo.

“Candidate visits are an integral part of any search process, and it is imperative that these searches move forward in a transparent manner and in consideration for the health and well-being of all those involved,” Geddes said.

NSHE System Administration will continue to work collaboratively with the Office of Governor Sisolak and all county, state, and federal health officials regarding COVID-19. The health and wellbeing of Nevada’s public higher education community continues to be NSHE’s utmost priority in this developing situation.
