Nevada Higher Education Institutions Graduate More than 10,000 Students

Nevada’s seven public higher education institutions graduated more than 10,000 students with doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s, and associate degrees, along with numerous training certificates this spring.

“We are very proud of our graduates and confident they have the foundation for successful careers and life here in Nevada,” said Thom Reilly, Chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education. “With each successful student graduation, Nevada higher education institutions are helping meet the ever-growing demand for highly skilled workers here in the Silver State.”

Academic achievement is paramount to the success of Nevada’s economy, added Board of Regents Chairman Kevin J. Page.

“These graduates are entering the workforce at an opportune time as job growth in Nevada remains high,” Page said. “Having an educated and diverse workforce not only helps the businesses already here, but also attracts outside industry and companies to come to Nevada.”

More than just highly skilled, the graduates of UNLV, the University of Nevada, Reno, the College of Southern Nevada, Western Nevada College, Nevada State College, Great Basin College, and Truckee Meadows Community College are culturally and linguistically diverse and strong in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

Still, there’s a lot of work to be done, Reilly said.

“As job growth increases, the Nevada System of Higher Education must continue to partner with the industry and business community to design specific training programs to fit their employment needs,” the chancellor said. “Our state’s economic success is dependent on increased participation in post-secondary education and closing the achievement gap among underserved populations.”
