Regents name Dr. Margo Martin acting president of the College of Southern Nevada

The Nevada Board of Regents today named Dr. Margo Martin as the acting president of the College of Southern Nevada (CSN), effective February 1, 2018.

Dr. Martin joined CSN as vice president for academic affairs in June 2017. She previously served Florida State College at Jacksonville (formerly Florida Community College at Jacksonville) from 1989-2017 in various positions, including dean of liberal arts, dean of arts and sciences, and dean of academic engagement and associate provost. View Dr. Martin’s full bio.

“Dr. Martin has extensive higher education experience and working within a multi-campus environment,” said Dr. Thom Reilly, chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education, who recommended Martin for the appointment. “She will play a critical role in the months ahead as CSN completes its accreditation process and moves forward with the multi-campus district model.”

Current president Dr. Michael Richards will retire on Jan. 31. He joined the college in 2005 as vice president for academic affairs and was named interim president in 2007 and president in 2008.

“President Richards’ contributions to not only the College of Southern Nevada, but to the community at large, have been immeasurable. His leadership has seen the college through remarkable enrollment growth and tough economic times. He was always a staunch advocate for his students and his presence will be missed,” said Kevin J. Page, chairman of the Board of Regents.

The first CSN Search Committee meeting is scheduled for January 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the CSN West Charleston campus.

Martin said she looks forward to working with students, faculty and staff to keep CSN engaged with the community. “We have a strong team at CSN, and I am looking forward to working with them as we continue the good work that has been initiated by retiring President Mike Richards,” she said. “While the search for a permanent president will be the focus of CSN in the coming months, there is much work that must continue and important initiatives that need to be fulfilled.”

She cited the transition to a multi-campus district model, the implementation of CSN’s common student experience, and preparation for an upcoming accreditation visit as top priorities in the coming months.
