Regents name Chet Burton as Western Nevada College president
The Board of Regents today unanimously approved the appointment of Chester “Chet” Burton as president of Western Nevada College. The regents will vote Friday morning on a contract detailing his compensation and length of service as president.
“Chet has done a remarkable job leading Western Nevada College in challenging times,” said Kevin J. Page, chairman of the Board of Regents. “He has brought increased stability, as well as a vision for a prosperous future for the college, its students and the surrounding communities.”
Burton has served as the interim president since December 2013.
He previously served as vice president of finance and administrative services from July to October 2013 and was the college’s controller and fiscal director from 2009-11.
His diverse professional background includes 20 years as a supply officer in the U.S. Navy, including stints at the Pentagon and as a legislative liaison at Capitol Hill. He then launched a career in the corporate sector, working for nine years in a variety of roles including controller and finance director at International Game Technology (IGT), a global-reaching gaming machine manufacturer, headquartered in Reno.
