Steven Zink recognized as national leader in education technology

The Center for Digital Education has named Steven Zink, NSHE’s vice chancellor for information technology, one of the nation’s top 30 education technology leaders.

“Steve’s long career in Nevada is a remarkable testament to his talent and creativity when it comes to managing the technology systems we rely on in our day-to-day operations,” said Chancellor Dan Klaich. “This national recognition of his efforts shows just how fortunate we are to have him on our leadership team.”

Each year, the Center for Digital Education recognizes K-20 education leaders who have transformed learning through the innovative use of technology in its annual Top 30 awards program and publication. Recognizing the Top 30 Technologists, Transformers and Trailblazers across America, CDE aims to honor pioneers in education technology and showcase the accomplishments and best practices of award winners. Nominations for all positions held within education, including public officials, are judged on:

  • Efforts to improve education with digital tools
  • Impact of those efforts on student achievement; the institution; and the local, state and national scene
  • Creativity and initiative to make change
  • Display of leadership qualities

Steven Zink joined NSHE in 2011 as vice chancellor for information technology where he oversees information technology policy and services for NSHE, its institutions, affiliates, and partners. Zink also provides oversight of the iNtegrate Project, which is replacing major administrative systems for all of public higher education in the State.

Before coming to NSHE, Zink served as vice president, information technology and dean, university libraries at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Zink holds a Ph.D. in information systems science and is the author of several books and over 120 other publications. Zink served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Government Information (Elsevier-Science) for 20 years and is a long-time editorial board member of other scholarly journals.

He has served as an advisor/consultant to numerous publishers, information services and technology firms, government agencies, universities, and libraries. He has been a member of the U.S. Advisory Committee on the Records of Congress since 2009.
