Regents elect Page as new chairman, Trachok as new vice chairman

The

Nevada Board of Regents today unanimously elected Kevin J. Page as chairman and Rick Trachok as vice chairman of the 13-member higher education governing body.

Regents Page and Trachok will begin their one-year terms starting July 1. Dr. Jason Geddes is the current chairman and Page is the vice chairman.

Chairman

He currently serves as vice chairman of the Board of Regents. He is also a member of the ad hoc Periodic Presidential Evaluation Committee (UNLV) and served on the University of Nevada, Reno and Nevada State College Presidential Search Committees as well as the Committee to Study the Funding of Higher Education. 

He served two years as vice chairman, from 2011-2013.

Page was born and raised in Queens, New York where he graduated from Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School in 1982. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in business administration in finance with a concentration in investments from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1986. He also earned his Master of Business Administration from UNLV in 1987.

Page was awarded the Outstanding Alumni for the College of Business and Economics in 2000. In 2006, he became the youngest and only the second UNLV Alumnus to be awarded both the UNLV Alumnus of the Year and Distinguished Nevadan Award, which is the most prestigious award conferred by the Board of Regents.

He served on the UNLV Alumni Board of Directors from 1989-2005, on the executive board from 1994-2005, as treasurer from 1996-1998, as first vice president from 1994-1996 and 1998-2000, and as alumni president from 2000-2003.

He is a past board member of the Police and Fire Emerald Society of Nevada and Police and Fire Emerald Society of Nevada Foundation which raises scholarship money for the children of police and firemen killed on 9-11 and in the line of duty. Page is also active in the St. Thomas More Catholic Community and a member of the Knights of Columbus. 

Page is currently managing director and senior relationship manager for Wells Capital Management-Institutional Investment Management Services and has held this position since 2000. He and his wife Patty reside in Las Vegas with their three daughters.

Rick Trachok
Vice Chairman

Regent Rick Trachok was appointed by Gov. Brian Sandoval to serve on the Board of Regents beginning September 3, 2011 and was retained in the 2012 election as the representative for District 10. He currently serves as chair of the Workforce, Research and Economic Development Committee. He is also a member of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee and the Cultural Diversity Committee.

He is a senior partner at Lewis and Roca in Reno where he focuses his practice in the areas of regulatory and gaming law, utility regulation and commercial law. He joined the firm in July 2012, and is the lead outside regulatory counsel for NV Energy. In 2008, he was included in the Nevada Business Journal’s “Legal Elite” issue as one of Nevada’s top international gaming and regulatory law attorneys.

Trachok earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1974, where he was an athlete on the track, skiing and cross-country teams, as well as a member of the agriculture academic honor society, Gamma Sigma Delta. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1974-1977. He earned a Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from California Western School of Law in 1980 and a Master of Laws degree from Cambridge University, Sidney Sussex College in 1984.

He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of Nevada, Washington DC and New York and is a member of the Nevada, Washoe County and American Bar Associations, as well as the American Arbitration Association, District of Columbia Bar Association, New York Bar Association and International Bar Association. Trachok was a deputy district attorney with the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office before going into private practice in 1981. He has served as a member of the Nevada Board of Bar Examiners since 1991 and has served as chairman since 2000.

Trachok served 15 years as an adjunct professor at UNR, teaching construction law in the graduate construction management program (1988-2003) and is currently an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco School of Law teaching the Law of International Trade. He currently serves on the emeritus board of trustees for Sage Ridge School. He previously served on the board of directors for numerous civic organizations including The Nature Conservancy of Nevada and Nevada Opera, Tahoe Rim Trail, Reno Chamber Orchestra and the Reno Philharmonic.

Regent Trachok is married to Cathy and has two children.
