Regent Jack Lund Schofield Honored by University of Utah

The

Nevada Regent Dr. Jack Lund Schofield has been named the 2013 College of Science Alumni of the Year by the University of Utah.

Schofield, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah in 1949, was recognized for exemplifying the college’s commitment to science, research, education, and outreach. According to Dr. Pierre V. Sokolsky, dean of the college of science, Schofield was selected based on his work with the Board of Regents as well as “tireless efforts…as a teacher, businessman, politician and member of our armed forces.”

The award will be presented to Schofield at the University of Utah’s homecoming week at the annual alumni reception on Sept. 13.

“I am honored to have been selected for this prestigious recognition,” said Schofield. “After serving as a fighter-bomber pilot in the 14th Air Force “Flying Tigers” in China during World War II, I knew I needed to change directions in my life and a college education was my ticket to doing so. The incredible faculty and people I met during my time at the University of Utah played a major role in making me who I am today.”

Schofield would later go on to earn a master’s degree at age 45 from the University of Nevada, Reno and a doctorate at age 72 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Schofield was elected to the Board of Regents in 2002 and was then retained in the 2008 election as the representative for Clark County, District 5. He served one successful term as vice chair of the Board of Regents, and currently serves as chair of the ad hoc Appeals Committee for Millennium Scholarship and vice chair of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee. He is also a member of the Cultural Diversity Committee and the Investment and Facilities Committee.

A longtime educator, Schofield is currently a real estate entrepreneur, CEO of Exclusive Homes & Products, and president of JS Development. Previously, he has been a Nevada state senator, assembly member and school administrator.

Jack Lund Schofield and his wife Alene have been married for 71 years and are the proud parents of six children, 34 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.
