NSHE launches campaign to help former students complete college degrees

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) today launched a state-wide campaign designed to help non-traditional students return to the classroom to complete their associate or bachelor’s degree.

The “Don’t Wait-Graduate!” campaign will encourage former NSHE students to re-enroll and finish the necessary remaining classes to fulfill their individual degree requirements. Specialized advisors, known as re-entry concierges, at each of Nevada’s seven public colleges and universities will be on hand to assist the prospective students in this process.

“These students came so close to finishing their degrees, and we want them to come back and finish what they started,” said Chancellor Dan Klaich. “This is a second chance to fulfill their dream of becoming a college graduate.”

Television and radio spots will air throughout the state from Nov. 15 to Dec. 18. Postcards will be mailed to prospective students the week of Nov. 14 and Dec. 12. Prospective students will be encouraged to visit the web site www.educatenevada.org where they can learn more information about the initiative as well as contact information for each institution’s re-entry concierge.

The campaign is completely funded by a grant from the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education as part of the multi-state Non-Traditional No More Initiative.

Although all former NSHE students are encouraged to re-enroll and complete their degrees, the “Don’t Wait-Graduate!” initiative is specifically targeting students who have completed at least 30 credits toward an associate degree at the College of Southern Nevada, Great Basin College, Truckee Meadows Community College or Western Nevada College; or at least 90 credits toward a bachelor’s degree at Great Basin College, Nevada State College, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas or the University of Nevada, Reno. This cohort of approximately 8,300 individuals was previously enrolled at an NSHE institution but did not attend in the previous academic year.
