Klaich recommends Mahlberg for GBC interim presidency
Chancellor Dan Klaich today sent his recommendation to the Nevada Board of Regents that Lynn Mahlberg be approved as the interim president of Great Basin College. If approved, Mahlberg would succeed President Carl Diekhans, who is due to retire on Nov. 1.
The regents are expected to vote on the recommendation during a special meeting on Oct. 21.
“After meeting with GBC’s faculty, students, foundation and community members, it was clear that there was great faith in Lynn to assume this critical role while the Board of Regents conducts a national search for a new president,” said Klaich. “She understands the college and is respected by campus communities and she has a broad understanding of the various facets of the college. She has my utmost confidence.”
Mahlberg is currently the college’s vice president for student services, a position she has held since 2001. She first joined GBC in 1991 as the director of admissions and records and has held various positions including affirmative action officer, administrative officer and dean of enrollment management.
She hold a master’s in business administration (management) from Golden Gate University, a bachelor’s of science in business administration (management) from California State University-Chico, and an associate of arts from Yuba College.
