Trevisan to serve as dean of Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education
Chancellor Dan Klaich announced today that Dr. Maurizio Trevisan, executive vice chancellor and CEO for the Health Sciences System since 2007, has accepted the position of dean at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education in New York.
“Dr. Trevisan has been a true visionary in helping Nevada advance its healthcare education system through innovative collaborations and partnerships,” said Klaich. “We are extremely grateful for his hard work and he has left our healthcare system in a better place than when he came here. We wish him the best as he begins this new chapter in his career.”
Trevisan begins his new position on Aug. 1. The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education is part of The City College of New York located in Manhattan.
“This departure is bittersweet for me,” said Trevisan. “While I am excited to embark on this new endeavor to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students in their quest to expand, I am sad to leave behind friends and colleagues who have been a big support to me and to NSHE in our efforts to meet the healthcare needs of Nevadans.”
Trevisan was instrumental in leading the Nevada System of Higher Education’s efforts in forming a joint Ph.D. program in public health between the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the University of Nevada, Reno. He also played a critical role in instituting the Inter-institutional Biomedical Research Activities Fund (a peer reviewed grant program to fund pilot studies to use in developing full-scale grant proposals based on the research results), the formation of the statewide Nevada Nursing Education & Practice Alliance, and the continued efforts in strengthening the partnership between the University of Nevada School of Medicine and the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada into a robust academic health center.
Chancellor Klaich has asked Dr. Marcia Turner, who has been with HSS since its inception, to assume a leadership role upon Trevisan’s departure.
“Dr. Turner has extensive experience in the fields of health care and higher education and has my complete confidence to lead the ongoing efforts of this important initiative for NSHE and our state,” said Klaich.
