Johnson recommended for UNR interim presidency
Chancellor Dan Klaich today announced his recommendation of Dr. Marc Johnson to serve as the interim president of the University of Nevada, Reno. The recommendation is subject to the approval of the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents at their May 6 meeting in Las Vegas.
“After meeting with several UNR constituent groups, it was clear that Dr. Johnson was the best individual to lead the university through this transition period, following the April 16 death of President Milt Glick,” said Klaich. “Marc has extensive higher education experience and his service as provost and executive vice president for the past two years has given him a strong background upon which to lead UNR. In his role as provost, Marc has led the university’s strategic planning process and he has contributed to UNR’s continued progress.
Terms of the appointment will be presented to the regents at the May 6 meeting.
Johnson joined UNR as provost and executive vice president in June 2008 and previously served as the dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences at Colorado State University from 2003-2008.
Johnson received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Emporia State University in Kansas, which named him a Distinguished Alumnus in 1994. His advanced degrees include a master of technology in international development from North Carolina State University, a master of economics from Michigan State University and a doctorate of agriculture economics from Michigan State University.
