NSHE Welcomes Three New Regents

The Nevada Board of Regents welcomed three new members and one returning member at a swearing in ceremony officiated by Nevada Supreme Court Justice Mark Gibbons on Thursday.

Amy J. Carvalho, Donald S. McMichael Sr., and Laura E. Perkins joined returning Regent Carol Del Carlo on the 13-member board.

“We are excited to welcome the new Regents to our board and look forward to the coming year as we serve NSHE’s more than 100,000 students and our faculty and staff,” Regents Chair Kevin J. Page said. “I look forward to working together as we focus on increasing student access and success throughout our higher education institutions.”

Elected to serve a six-year term, the 13 Regents governs NSHE, set policies, and approve budgets for Nevada’s public system of higher education, including four community colleges, one state college, two universities and one research institute.

The eight institutions are the College of Southern Nevada; Desert Research Institute; Great Basin College; Nevada State College; Truckee Meadows Community College; University of Nevada, Las Vegas; University of Nevada, Reno; and Western Nevada College. NSHE provides educational opportunities to more than 100,000 students.

Regent Carvalho, who represents District 12 in Clark County will serve on the Business, Finance and Facilities Committee; Community College Committee; Cultural Diversity Committee; and Health Sciences System Committee.

Regent Del Carlo, who represents District 9 in Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Esmeralda, Lander, Lyon, Mineral, Storey, and Washoe Counties, serves as chair of the Community College Committee and vice chair of the Business, Finance and Facilities Committee. She is also a member of the Audit, Compliance and Title IX Committee and the Investment Committee.

Regent McMichael, who represents District 4 in Clark County, will serve on the Audit, Compliance and Title IX Committee; Business, Finance and Facilities Committee; Community College Committee; and Security Committee.

Regent Perkins, who represents District 1 in Clark County, will serve on the Academic, Research and Student Affairs Committee; Audit, Compliance and Title IX Committee; Cultural Diversity Committee; and the Investment Committee.
