Board of Regents Renew Contract of Great Basin College President and Extends the Contracts of Two Others

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents renewed the contract of Great Basin College President Joyce M. Helens and extended by one year the contracts of University of Nevada, Reno President Marc A. Johnson and Nevada State College President Bart. J. Patterson.

“I’m proud of the work of President Helens. She is deserving of this contract renewal as she continues to move Great Basin College forward,” Chancellor Thom Reilly said.

President Helens has led GBC since August 2017.

“President Helens has made great strides in working to increase student access and success at GBC, including the Military Credit Program which allows college credit be awarded to veterans for military service and training,” Reilly said.

Previously, Helens served as president of St. Cloud Technical and Community College. She has also served in leadership roles at the University of Alaska Anchorage Community and Technical College and the University of Alaska Corporate Programs.

Both President Johnson and President Patterson received one-year extensions on their contracts.
