NSHE Board of Regents Names CSN’s New Student Union after Assemblyman Tyrone Thompson
The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents on Friday unanimously voted to name the new student union building at the College of Southern Nevada, North Las Vegas campus, after Assemblyman Tyrone Thompson.
Thompson, a tireless advocate for education, passed away unexpectedly in May.
“Assemblyman Thompson was a selfless advocate for Nevada’s public higher education system and most especially our students,” said Regents Chair Jason Geddes. “I am pleased we are able to honor his work and his memory in this way.”
NSHE Chancellor Thom Reilly added, “Tyrone’s passing was a tremendous loss, but the work he did in his life has left an indelible legacy on education in Nevada. I am proud we are honoring him in this way.”
Thompson was actively concerned with increasing student success at NSHE institutions, particularly for low-income and minority students. He chaired the CSN-Mentor Committee and helped launch Bump Up, an African American Student Success Program at CSN.
The CSN North Las Vegas Campus, Tyrone Thompson Student Union is expected to be completed and in August.
