NSHE and the Board of Regents Mourns the Passing of CSN President Emeritus Meacham
The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) and the Board of Regents are mourning the passing of former CSN president Dr. Paul E. Meacham.
“President Meacham was a selfless advocate for the College of Southern Nevada and its students. I had the pleasure of working with President Meacham in the 1980 and 1990’s and greatly admired him,” said Regents Chair Jason Geddes. “On behalf of the Board of Regents, I want to offer our sincerest condolences to his family and the CSN community. ”
Chanchellor Thom Reilly added, “On behalf of NSHE, I want to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of President Emeritus Paul E. Meacham and to the College of Southern Nevada community. President Meacham’s impact on CSN and southern Nevada will not be forgotten. Nevada’s largest higher education institution is what it is today because of his leadership.”
Meacham was CSN’s longest serving president and its first African American president, overseeing the college at a time of tremendous growth. He spearheaded the effort to build the much-needed Charleston campus, now the college’s largest campus.
After leaving CSN, Dr. Meacham spent another nine years in higher education as a tenured professor at UNLV. He was later named a professor emeritus at UNLV and president emeritus at CSN.
In 2015, CSN named the student services building on the Charleston Campus the Paul E. Meacham Student Services Building in honor of his steadfast dedication to the college and its students.
