NSHE Regents Examine Interactive College and Career Tool for Perspective Students
Nevada System of Higher Education Chancellor Thom Reilly proposed a system-wide initiative that will modernize the way high school students and adults search for career paths through higher education.
The Me3 platform, created and utilized by Arizona State University, is an innovative and free interactive major and career quiz tool designed to help connect college majors with career interests for perspective and current students.
During the Board of Regents quarterly meeting, a demonstration of the Me3 platform was presented, which allows students to learn about their career interests, how careers connect to majors, and allows students to design a high school experience that will set them on the pathway to success.
“When it comes to enrolling our young people into higher education, Nevada ranks near the bottom of the country,” Chancellor Thom Reilly said. “We need a tool that shows our young people in high school the pathway through our colleges and universities that ends with high wage careers for the many in-demand occupations across the state. The Me3 platform can provide the type of dialogue for our young people that will connect their interests to a career path, and the necessary college credentials needed for success.”
Regents Chair Jason Geddes added, “The demand for highly skilled labor is growing here in Nevada and we need to help students and parents create pathways to those careers in a new and innovative way. I believe Me3 is the platform to achieve that goal.”
Creating a Nevada version of the Me3 platform will be possible thanks to a generous gift from the Rogers Foundation, one of the largest privately funded charitable foundations in Nevada that aims to transform the lives of children and young adults through art and education.
The initiative, which will be voted on for approval by the Board of Regents at a later day, would be made possible thanks to a new partnership between the Nevada System of Higher Education and EdPlus at Arizona State University.
