Welcome to the Spring Break edition of the Chancellor’s Bulletin. Below are a few of the fantastic things our students and faculty are doing in their communities and around the world.
- Students – Congratulations to the four graphic communications students and one recent Truckee Meadows Community College graduate who accepted 11 gold and silver local ADDYs at the annual American Advertising Awards held on March 11 by the Reno Chapter of the American Advertising Federation.
- Faculty – University of Nevada, Las Vegas professor Daniel Gerrity was awarded a $329,650 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to research human and ecological health impacts associated with water reuse and conservation practices.
- Research – This week, a research team from the Desert Research Institute, working with the University of Idaho and Google, unveiled ClimateEngine.org — a web application that enables users to quickly process and visualize satellite earth observations and gridded weather data for environmental monitoring and to improve early warning of drought, wildfire, and crop-failure risk. The announcement was made as part of the White House Water Summit, in conjunction with the United Nations World Water Day.
- Awards – Congratulations to Vice Chancellor Steven Zink for being named one of Government Technology’s Top 25 innovators in the public sector.
- Upcoming Events – The University of Nevada School of Medicine has scheduled free Student Outreach Clinics to provide more services for the medically uninsured in Washoe County. A women’s clinic will be held April 2 from 8 a.m. to noon and combined general and pediatric clinics will be held April 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. and again on April 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. In addition, a combined geriatrics/dermatology clinic will be held on April 23 from 8 a.m. to noon.
