About
Regent Heather Brown was elected in November 2022 to serve on the Board of Regents as the representative for District 6.
A Las Vegas native and alumna of Western High School and UNLV, Regent Brown has dedicated her life to public service. As the youngest female regent elected and a product of CCSD and NSHE, she brings a unique perspective shaped by her experience as a small-business owner, guiding her decisions on the Board. Her primary goal is to ensure the ongoing affordability, accessibility, and steadfast commitment to excellence in Nevada’s higher education institutions.
Her upbringing in a military household instilled within her core values of service, compassion, and accountability, principles that have remained the driving force throughout her career. As a first-generation college graduate, she greatly benefited from the Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship, which facilitated her education without incurring debt.
Leveraging her education at UNLV, Heather embarked on diverse and adventurous experiences post-college. Having resided in 11 states and 3 countries, traveled to 84 countries, and gained exposure across various industries in the public and private sectors, she brings a holistic global perspective to the Nevada System of Higher Education.
After completing her studies at UNLV, Heather spent a decade in Washington, D.C., and two years in Brussels before returning to Southern Nevada. Upon her return, she co-founded StartUp Vegas, dedicated to nurturing the startup ecosystem and fostering entrepreneurship in Southern Nevada. Later, she assumed the role of Senior Vice President of Entrepreneurial Development at the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, spearheading initiatives aimed at advancing the tech and startup community. Her efforts focused on driving economic diversification, workforce development, and fostering attraction and growth opportunities in the Vegas Valley.
Regent Brown’s notable achievements include being recognized among Las Vegas’ 40 under 40 in 2023 and being selected for the esteemed Leadership Las Vegas class of 2024.
