{"id":32269,"date":"2025-06-13T11:03:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T18:03:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nshe.nevada.edu\/system-administration\/?post_type=news&#038;p=32269"},"modified":"2025-08-07T12:06:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T19:06:00","slug":"nshe-board-of-regents-renews-contract-for-nevada-state-university-president-derionne-pollard","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/nshe.nevada.edu\/system-administration\/news\/2025\/06\/nshe-board-of-regents-renews-contract-for-nevada-state-university-president-derionne-pollard\/","title":{"rendered":"NSHE Board of Regents Renews Contract for Nevada State University President DeRionne Pollard"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) voted to approve the <a href=\"https:\/\/nshe.nevada.edu\/html\/wp-content\/uploads\/file\/BoardOfRegents\/Agendas\/2025\/06-jun-mtgs\/refs\/bor\/BOR-24.pdf\">contract<\/a> renewal of Nevada State University (Nevada State) President Dr. DeRionne Pollard, following a positive periodic evaluation and continued progress across multiple areas of the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPresident Pollard has positioned Nevada State as a forward-looking university with a strong sense of purpose,\u201d said <strong>Board of Regents Chair Amy J. Carvalho<\/strong>. \u201cHer work reflects a deep commitment to expanding access to higher education and delivering results for Nevada students. The Board is proud to support her continued leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since stepping into the role in 2021, Dr. Pollard has guided Nevada State through a period of significant maturation and change. Under her leadership, the institution formally changed its name from \u2018college\u2019 to \u2018university,\u2019 expanded graduate offerings, increased enrollment in critical workforce roles like nursing and teaching, and launched its first-ever athletics program. She also helped secure new investments in student success, including a $5 million anonymous gift that created the First and Fierce Program to support first-generation students, and more than $13.7 million in federal earmarks to strengthen academic programs and campus infrastructure. This spring, Nevada State celebrated its second-largest graduating class in its history, awarding 869 degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs Nevada State continues to grow, I look forward to working alongside Dr. Pollard to strengthen NSHE\u2019s impact across the state,\u201d said <strong>Chancellor Matt McNair<\/strong>. \u201cHer bold, student-centered vision and collaborative leadership are exactly what\u2019s needed as we continue shaping a higher education system that reflects Nevada\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Board\u2019s decision followed a thorough evaluation process that included feedback from students, faculty, staff, and community partners. The evaluation committee recommended renewal based on Dr. Pollard\u2019s performance and the momentum she has helped create across the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m incredibly honored to continue serving as president of Nevada State University,\u201d said <strong>Dr. Pollard<\/strong>. \u201cThis is a community that believes in the power of education to transform lives, and I\u2019m proud of what we\u2019ve built together.
