John Fenton is a U.S. Army veteran and father of two teenage boys. He began his college experience at age 34, working toward a degree in political sciences with a minor in business; his goal is to go to law school. John is not the typical student. Having come back from Iraq in 2007, John struggled for years with post-traumatic stress disorder. Needing to recreate his life, John became involved in veteran issues, assisting former service members with claims for service connected disabilities, discharge upgrades, and working with the homeless veteran population. John is passionate about equity. His life’s experience informs him of a critical need for fundamental fairness in our lives and greater society. He is committed to ensuring that people who need intervention services and benefits receive the care that was not afforded to him. As a student Senator and Student Veterans of America Chapter President, John has worked hard to foster a sense of duty, service, and belonging among students.
